C800 THEMES & SCENES: From Dinosaurs to Dolphins 4 - 7 Years (All New Projects)

This class provides multiple learning opportunities as well as a lot of fun.  Children use lots of fun resources (like stencils, stamps, texture rubbing sets, paper flower presses, plaster moulds, toys and models to draw from or sculpt from, art activity pages, etc.  
Children learn well when themes are reinforced and from experienceing things from different angles or aspects, having hands-on multiple experiences and when multiple senses are involved.  This class will be appealing both in its learning opportunities as well as the sheer fun of child-oriented themes.

As an example, children would start with dinosaurs and create some rubber stamp art on paper, then on a piece of paper which then folds into a cube, getting different things happening on different sides.  Next, they will make a 'scene' or diarama out of model magic (for the dinosaurs) and use plastic plant and small fabric flowers to build foliage, plaster and sand for the ground etc.  This can be done in a box with painted 'walls' and waxed paper on top to let in light and a piece of a paper towel roll for viewing.  Throw in some tracing and 'rubbings' art for those that finish more quickly. These will be available at the start of the class when the children arrive (they usually draw as they come in so no one sits idle waiting for the rest of the class).  Then, they move on to 'sea life' with plaster moulds of many sea creatures which are painted, using an effective watercolour technique, then the figures are glued into a background scene made with different marker and painting techniques.  And so it goes...!
